Transfer insider Dean Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that Thomas Tuchel was frustrated by Conor Gallagher’s start to the season at Chelsea.
The Cobham alumnus spent impressed while out on loan at Crystal Palace last term scoring eight goals and providing three assists in 34 Premier League appearances and was described as a ‘manager’s dream’ by Eagles boss and Arsenal icon Patrick Vieira.
The tireless midfielder was the subject of interest from West Ham throughout the summer with the two clubs in ‘continuous dialogue’ as the 22-year-old played just six minutes total in the first two games of the season.
Tuchel then started the Epson-born starlet in consecutive games however the second of which saw him sent off for two yellow cards in quick succession against Leicester.
Despite being letdown Tuchel still showed faith in Gallagher as he was thrown right back into the startling line-up versus West Ham only to be taken off on the hour with footage circulating showing the German coach clearly frustrated with the four-cap England star.
Jones said: “He [Tuchel] just wanted it to work to be honest and he was frustrated that it wasn’t. Tuchel was frustrated anyway though and Gallagher wanted his opportunity in this Chelsea team and he was unbelievable at Crystal Palace last year, so Tuchel was trying to show faith in one of those young players.”
Last season Gallagher averaged a SofaScore rating of 7.08 however he has started with the worst in a Chelsea shirt with an underwhelming 6.4 this time around and he will be hoping he can get back to form under a new manager as he will no doubts have his eyes set on earning a seat on the plane to the World Cup this winter.
