With Xabi Alonso set to have a say on transfer matters this summer, there has been a lot of intrigue about what type of signings Chelsea will make in this window. Well, it looks like they are now closing in on the first one. And to be very honest, it just feels like another move that you would have always expected from BlueCo.
Chelsea were expected to strengthen on the left flank this summer. But now, it appears that they could be closing in on the signing of another left-footed winger who plays on the right. Let’s not forget that they already have Estevao and Pedro Neto in their ranks, and Geovany Quenda is set to arrive as well.
So, the thought process behind such a signing would not be clear. While nothing is done yet, it is getting closer and might be just one step away now.
According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea and Newcastle United have both had bids accepted for Zadok Yohanna. The Nigerian winger will now have a choice between the two clubs. They put €25million (£21.6m) offers on the table and AIK have given it the green light.
Chelsea bid has been accepted
Yohanna has been linked with a move to Chelsea the past few days now. It remains to be seen if they can complete a deal from here.
An agreement has been reached with AIK. Now, it remains to be seen if they can find a deal with the player as well.
Ultimately, it might end up coming down to the pathway into the first-team. And that might prompt Yohanna to pick Newcastle United over Chelsea.
That being said, it is very possible that he might start out at Strasbourg if he does get that Chelsea move. And it could very well be the easier start than going straight into the Premier League.
Why Yohanna could be a good signing
Yohanna has a ton of potential, there is no doubt about that. From what I have seen of his game, there is certainly something different about him.
Yohanna has a calmness with the ball at his feet. He is not the type of winger who rushes into decisions and then hopes that he can get the better of his defender on pace.
He is making quick decisions, he is forcing them into mistakes and then taking advantage. That is what great wingers do.
Also, his output has been quite impressive. In 12 games this season, he has nine goal contributions for AIK. So, it is not hard to see why Chelsea have made their move.
