Atletico Madrid pushing to sign Chelsea player in €50m-plus deal

Share

Xabi Alonso’s arrival has raised the hopes of the Chelsea fans for the future. The Spaniard is not a magician though. If his time at the club is to be a success, the Blues will need to provide him with the right tools to be successful. That means making quality signings. But they will also need to keep the core of their team together.

That might not be easy. A lot of key players might be seeking moves away after failing to qualify for the Champions League and years of disappointing results under BlueCo.

Atletico Madrid are one of the clubs who have been linked with a move for Marc Cucurella in recent times. And it looks like they might be ready to take their next step in this pursuit.

According to Matteo Moretto (via Atletico Universe), Atletico Madrid are pushing to sign Cucurella from Chelsea. The operation could exceed €50 million. FC Barcelona are monitoring the situation closely, while Manchester City have him on their shortlist.

Spain looks like the most likely destination for Marc Cucurella

It would be safe to say that Cucurella would not have any lack of suitors if he did leave Chelsea this summer. He is considered one of the best left-backs in the world after all.

Atletico Madrid seem to be the most interested in signing him. But Barcelona have been constantly linked with him as well and are believed to be looking to strengthen at left-back this summer.

Manchester City links have emerged with Enzo Maresca closing in on the vacant job to replace Pep Guardiola. Of course, the two worked together very successfully at Chelsea.

Then there have been some loose rumours linking the Spaniard with Real Madrid as well. That one does feel a bit unlikely but should not be completely overlooked either.

Chelsea will need to find a replacement if Cucurella leaves

Chelsea will need to bring in a quality replacement if Cucurella does end up leaving. They would be losing a nailed-on starter after all.

Yes, Jorrel Hato has been excellent in recent months. That being said, it might be too much to ask him to be a regular starter immediately. It needs to be a smooth transition.

Chelsea were being linked with Nathaniel Brown as well. But it is now being reported that Bayern Munich have agreed verbal terms with him.

There are a few other left-backs who have also been linked with Chelsea recently. So, let’s see how this situation develops. Cucurella is believed to be available if the club’s transfer valuation is met.
