Chelsea discuss making £21.6m offer for Nigerian winger

Chelsea could say goodbye to multiple wingers this summer. It has been reported that they are open to offers for both Alejandro Garnacho and Pedro Neto. The former simply was not able to meet expectations following his move from Man Utd last summer. The latter has not taken the next step despite getting consistent playing time over his two years at Stamford Bridge.

So, Chelsea might be ready to move on. Also, there have been some suggestions that Jamie Gittens could be available for the right offer after an injury-riddled and underwhelming campaign.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for those three. On the other hand, it looks like Chelsea are already eyeing potential signings this summer.

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea have discussed an offer worth £21.6 million including bonuses for Zadok Yohanna. On the other hand, Brighton & Hove Albion and Newcastle United are understood to have made similar bids of around £20.5 million.

Several Premier League clubs trying to sign Zadok Yohanna

It will be very interesting to see if Chelsea do indeed end up making the move. Yohanna is the kind of signing that the club have made time and again during the BlueCo era.

The Nigerian winger has put up some impressive numbers during his short time at AIK so far. But let’s not forget that he is still just 18 years of age.

He has played most of his football on the right flank. If Neto does indeed leave this summer, there would be a gap there.

Chelsea already have Estevao, but he has dealt with multiple injuries this season. Also, Geovany Quenda can play there, but will he be favoured on the other flank instead?

Would Yohanna be a good signing for Chelsea right now?

If you ask me, it does not feel like a good idea for Chelsea to try and sign Yohanna at this point in time. The reality of the matter is that he is an 18-year-old winger who has played very little football at the senior level and not even in a top league.

Yes, he might be doing very well. But even then, he would not be an immediate solution to Chelsea’s problems, which is what they need right now.

Chelsea could do with more experience and proven quality right now. Unfortunately, that is not what Yohanne brings to the table.

Do they need another wonderkid? Chelsea have signed so many over the last few years and not many have worked out according to expectations.

matchday.
