For a long time now, Real Madrid have been believed to be Enzo Fernandez’s next destination. And it is pretty much an open secret that he would like to leave Chelsea this summer. That does not mean that the door to the Bernabeu is open to him. On the contrary, if Florentino Perez’s recent comments are anything to go by, hopes of getting that move might already be fading for the Argentine.
Perez is trying to get re-elected as Real Madrid president right now. And he has now promised a club record transfer bid.
The identity of the player has not been revealed yet. Perez continues to drop clues though. And it is quite clear that he is not talking about Fernandez.
In fact, it is nobody from the Premier League at all. According to Fabrizio Romano, Perez said:
“The official €150m bid will not be for a Premier League player.”
Who could Perez be talking about?
Of course, your guess is as good as mine in this situation. But there are certain individuals who have been ruled out already as well.
It has been confirmed that it is not Harry Kane, Erling Haaland, or Michael Olise. And obviously, everybody playing in the Premier League is ruled out as well. Yet, Perez promises a Galactico signing, as he said:
“The bid will be for a Cristiano Ronaldo or Kaká level player. He’s a Galactico.”
Well, that does not leave for far too many players as is. And then you exclude all of those previous names, and not many are left. In fact, it is hard to think of any.
The only ones who might fall in that category are playing for PSG right now. They are back-to-back champions.
One name that I feel fits is Vitinha. Joao Neves has also been linked but he surely is not at the level of Ronaldo or Kaka, Ballon d’Or winners when Real Madrid signed him.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia could be a potential name that fits that bracket as well. But then, with Vinicius Jr staying on, such a move would make little sense.
What does this mean for Chelsea and Fernandez?
Well, if the move is for someone like Vitinha, Neves or some other midfielder, it would mean the end of Real Madrid’s interest in Fernandez.
But let’s just say that it is not any of them. Even then, it is hard to imagine that Real Madrid would be looking to sign Fernandez this summer.
Let’s not forget that Chelsea want around £120 million to part ways with him. That simply might not be financially feasible for even Real Madrid.
