‘Good proposal’ – Fabrizio Romano shares Marc Cucurella Chelsea exit news

Marc Cucurella is someone who has been constantly suggested as someone who could be on his way out of Chelsea this summer. It is not hard to understand why. He has been at Stamford Bridge since the very start of the project. He joined in the summer of 2022, while Thomas Tuchel was the manager. As a result, he has had a front-row view of how things have gone wrong since then.

Four years later, Chelsea have had very little success. The only manager who was able to win any silverware under BlueCo chose to walk away months later and is now set to become Manchester City’s manager.

So, one can see why someone like Cucurella might be exploring an exit. He is 27 years of age and will want to win now. But can Chelsea do that, even with Xabi Alonso coming in? Fans will have their doubts, at least until they see how this transfer window is managed.

On the other hand, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that there is a chance Cucurella could leave this summer. The Italian journalist said while speaking on YouTube:

Many questions I got also on Marc Cucurella. What’s happening with Cucurella? Is he going to this club? Is he going to the other club? So, to answer you and clarify the Cucurella situation. The question is, is Cucurella having a chance eventually to leave Chelsea this summer?

It’s a possibility in case of a good proposal for the player and an important proposal for Chelsea. It’s a possibility to see Cucurella leaving the club. For sure, from Spain, they have genuine interest, but at the moment with Barcelona, many questions about this, from what I’m told, it’s still early stages. They appreciate the player, they know the player, but it’s still early stages because Barcelona are busy with other things, and also in terms of fullbacks at the moment, in terms of number of fullbacks, they are already quite covered on the left. So, that’s a situation. And don’t forget Joao Cancelo, because Barcelona are very happy with what Cancelo did in the six months loan. So, at the moment, with Barca, appreciation yes, but still early stages.

Atletico Madrid have to consider what to do in terms of investments on fullbacks. For sure, there is a lot of appreciation, but at the moment there is still no bid on the table, nothing official, nothing concrete. So, if something important arrives, again, not just for the player, also for Chelsea, Chelsea has to be respected in this story, if an important proposal arrives, there could be movement for Cucurella. But at the moment, depending again on what’s going to happen, nothing immediate. So, let’s follow this one.

Fabrizio Romano confirms Marc Cucurella could leave for the right offer

So, that is pretty much the gist of the situation. Cucurella could end up leaving Chelsea this summer, but only for the right offer. Then again, you could say the same thing about pretty much everybody on this squad.

Other than Cole Palmer, Moises Caicedo, Joao Pedro, Levi Colwill, Estevao and Reece James, it is hard to imagine that there are any other players Chelsea would not let go if the offer was good enough.

Do not get us wrong, on his day, Cucurella is a phenomenal left-back. Not too long ago, he was being considered amongst the best in Europe.

His form was a bit shaky in the second half of this campaign. One would imagine a lot of that was down to the constant change in managers, evolving systems as a result of it and the club’s lack of form under Liam Rosenior.

It has been claimed that Alonso has contacted Cucurella and wants to keep him next season. Now, let’s see how this plays out.

Jorrel Hato could play a factor in Chelsea decision

Jorrel Hato’s rise in the second half of the season cannot be overlooked. Admittedly, he looked lost and nowhere near good enough early on in his Chelsea career. That just goes to show the importance of giving youngsters time to adjust.

Hato was one of Chelsea’s best players in the second half of the season. Even as those around him struggled and looked uninspired, he continued to put in performances. That is not easy to do and shows his mentality.

When Alonso talks about creating a team of ‘mentality monsters’, one would imagine that it will be taken into account. But would it be right to move on from Cucurella based on five months of good football from Hato?

Fans have constantly asked for experience and proven quality. Cucurella has that. But the moment a youngster starts showing flashes of quality, you can’t just part with the senior player. It would mean going back to square one.

matchday.
