Arsenal join race to sign Chelsea player out of nowhere

Over the years, it has been a common sight to see Arsenal sign players from Chelsea. Names like Jorginho, Kai Havertz, Petr Cech, David Luiz, Willian, Kepa Arrizabalaga, William Gallas, Noni Madueke and several others have made that journey. Things have changed a bit recently though.

Earlier, it was those at the end of their careers at Chelsea who made the switch to Arsenal. But now, the likes of Madueke and Havertz have chosen to leave before even entering their prime.

That just goes to show how the dynamic has shifted in recent times. Arsenal are currently enjoying a run at the top of English football right now and could even win the Champions League this season. On the other hand, Chelsea are not even good enough to qualify for Europe. There is a big gap there. And it is unsurprising that another one of the Blues’ starters could make the journey across London. At least that is what the rumours are suggesting.

According to an exclusive report from CaughtOffside, Arsenal are monitoring the situation of Enzo Fernandez. Although Mikel Arteta’s priority appears to be Sandro Tonali.

Fernandez seems eager to leave Chelsea this summer

Fernandez has been linked with a move away from Chelsea for a little while now. And he has never ruled the possibility out. On the contrary, the club handed him a two-game suspension earlier in the campaign for comments made to the media.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for him. Also, it has been claimed that Chelsea want around £120 million to part ways with Fernandez this summer.

It goes without saying that there not too many clubs out there capable of meeting that demand. And even if there was room for negotiation, one would imagine that the transfer fee would not go down below £100 million.

Is a move to Arsenal on the cards?

To be very honest, it feels quite unlikely. Fernandez is a very good player without a doubt. But he is not someone that Arsenal need at this point in time.

Unless he badly need somebody, it is hard to imagine that you would go out and spend that kind of money signing him. That is just my opinion on the matter.

There are several other clubs who have been linked with Fernandez as well. The likes of PSG, Real Madrid and Man City, so an exit could still be possible, even if it is not Arsenal signing him.

It is worth noting though that those other three clubs do not seem to view him as the priority either. PSG’s interest has been downplayed already. And Man City seem to be intent on signing Elliot Anderson.

The one club that might still be a realistic option is Real Madrid. But that might depend on the future of Florentino Perez there. Also, they have rarely gone out and made that kind of an offer for players in recent times. Then again, with the level of spending from Barcelona this summer, perhaps Los Blancos would be more open to the prospect as well.

matchday.
