Cesc Fabregas break silence on future amid links with Chelsea

Chelsea are going through a troublesome period currently. Unfortunately, the Blues are at great risk of going trophyless this season. Even more worryingly, they might have to bid goodbye to a Champions League spot as well, with the team sitting sixth in the Premier League right now. And based on form, we can only see them slipping further down the table.

So, needless to say, Chelsea manager Liam Rosenier is feeling the pressure. The Englishman was handed the reins following the sacking of Enzo Maresca. However, he hasn’t had the dream start he would have hoped for. In fact, it has been a complete nightmare.

If history teaches us anything, there is a chance that Rosenier might be relieved of his duties soon. A number of candidates have already been linked with the club as potential replacements. One of them is Cesc Fabregas.

The former Chelsea midfielder is currently the manager at Como and has been one of the top names suggested to take over after Rosenier on the back of an impressive 25/26 campaign in Serie A. That said, it looks like the Spaniard is content with his current job and isn’t interested in leaving the Italian side as of now.

Cesc Fabregas pours cold water on rumours linking him to Chelsea

According to Metro, Fabregas said after being handed the Enzo Bearzot award by the Italian Football Federation:

‘I am very committed to this project. You never know, but right now I think it’s very unlikely I’ll leave Como.

‘Last year, I wanted to see how other clubs operated. I mentioned it to the president, but I decided to stay.

‘I’m very happy with what we’ve been able to achieve. This is an important project.

‘I need to feel good here. It’s important that my family is happy, and if they’re happy in Como, I’ll stay.’

Fabregas has done an admirable job at Como. The Italian club are in fifth position this season and just two points from securing a place in the Champions League football. Much better than where Chelsea find themselves.

It is worth mentioning that Como has a talented young squad, which makes them comparable to Chelsea. This highlights the Spanish coach’s ability to get the best out of youngsters. That is surely something the Blues could make use of.

Chelsea fans would’ve been delighted to see Fabregas in the dugout at Stamford Bridge again in a different role. He certainly makes a strong case for himself as well. But this recent development means that will have to wait.

The clock is ticking for Liam Rosenior

Although recent reports have stated that Rosenier has the full backing of the club, Chelsea are not exactly known for being patient with their managers. So if the English tactician can’t find a way to bring significant improvement over the last few weeks of the season, a sacking cannot be completely ruled out.

However, with Fabregas ruling out a return to Chelsea anytime soon, the club will have to focus on other candidates. Who could those be? Xabi Alonso? Andoni Iraola? Oliver Glasner? Somebody else?

Nevertheless, the next few weeks will be crucial in deciding the future of Rosenier at Chelsea. The club faces Manchester United next at home, and it will be a must-win game. Let’s see if the Blues boss can guide the team to a positive result and start building some momentum.

matchday.
