Monaco leading the race for Christensen’s signature

French Ligue 1 club AS Monaco are leading the race for Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen, according to a report on Inside Futbol.

Monaco are only one of a host of clubs who are interested in securing the signature of the Danish international, who is growing increasingly frustrated with the lack of first-team opportunities given to him by Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge.

The centre-back is also being monitored by Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach, where he spent two years on loan.

However, Monaco are understood to be in pole position to sign Christensen, with Chelsea preparing for a number of offers for him in the January transfer window.

The 22-year-old has struggled to break into the starting lineup under Sarri, who prefers to play David Luiz alongside Antonio Rudiger in defence.

Christensen’s current Chelsea deal expires in 2022 and is still very highly-rated by the club.

However, his desire to play regular first-team football could see him move away from the London club, with Thierry Henry more than happy to take him to Monaco.
