Chelsea look to “hold on” to star player Eden Hazard

Chelsea are prepared to reject advances from European goliaths Real Madrid and Barcelona in order to hold on to their star man Eden Hazard following his impressive World Cup campaign with Belgium, according to Matt Law of The Telegraph.

The tricky forward captained his nation to a third-place finish, their highest in the country’s history and also weighed in with an impressive three goals, two assists and four Man of the Match performances.

It is believed that Real Madrid are prepared to make an offer in the region of £200 million to replace Cristiano Ronaldo, which could very well rival the current world record fee set by Paris Saint Germain over the transfer of Neymar Jr in August 2017.

However, newly appointed Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri is confident he can keep the Belgian at the club for a further 12 months, despite Hazard throwing his Chelsea future into question following Belgium’s 2-0 win over England in Saturday’s World Cup third-place playoff when he said:

After six wonderful years with Chelsea, it might be time to discover something different. I can decide if I want to stay or go, but Chelsea will make the final decision.

Real Madrid will have to act fast should they be interested in signing the Chelsea danger man as Maurizio Sarri and the Chelsea board seem ready to offer the Belgian a £300,000-a-week contract in order to tempt him into remaining at the Blues for a few more seasons.

Only time will tell whether Hazard leaves the club he has been pivotal for over the last six years, but the next few weeks will certainly be interesting as clubs look to continue building the foundations of their squads ahead of the upcoming season.
