It is very clear that Chelsea will try to sign a winger in the summer transfer window. With Xabi Alonso coming in, it is believed that the Blues will attempt to bring in experience and proven quality to Stamford Bridge. But that does not mean that they will completely abandon their youth-focused recruitment strategy.
So, if the chance presents itself to sign some quality youngsters, expect Chelsea to be there. And it looks like a PSG winger they failed to bring in in January could now potentially be available.
Of course, PSG have one of the strongest tests in the world right now, especially in the forward areas. They are back-to-back Champions League winners for a reason. It is believed that Yan Diomande could be set to join them on top of that. Of course, that would make it even more difficult for their youngsters to break though.
As a result, some of them might try to engineer moves away. According to RMC Sport, Ibrahim Mbaye ‘s situation is uncertain. The winger, under contract with PSG until 2028, but has had limited playing time under Luis Enrique. Several clubs are interested in him. It remains to be seen whether the European champions are willing to consider offers for the youngster.
Ibrahim Mbaye deserves more playing time at PSG
Mbaye played fewer than 1000 minutes of Ligue 1 football last season. The situation was even worse in the Champions League as he featured for just 101 minutes in total as PSG retained their title.
So, it is easy to understand why he might be reconsidering his future options. Also, let us not forget that he has been a standout at international level already.
For the Senegal national team, Mbaye has three goals and five assists in 10 appearances. He played 358 minutes in total in those games. That was enough to book his spot in the World Cup squad.
So, the talent is clear for all to see. Now, he needs the chance to develop. If that does not come at PSG, Mbaye might have to consider other options. Could Chelsea be his next destination?
Would Mbaye be a good signing for Chelsea?
Chelsea’s wing options are going to be interesting next season. Alejandro Garnacho and Pedro Neto are both believed to be available for the right transfer offer. There has been some speculation around the future of Jamie Gittens as well.
That would leave Estevao, Jesse Derry and the incoming Geovany Quenda as the only options on the flanks. One would hope that the club sign a proven winger there, at least.
Now, would it be a good idea to add an 18-year-old Mbaye to this mix? I understand how talented he is. But it simply might not be what Chelsea need at this point in time.
Also, there is no guarantee that PSG would be willing to part ways with him. But with just two years left on his contract, they need to come to an understanding with the youngster about where he sees his future, before making any decision regarding the Senegalese international.
