Following his departure from Europe League winners Chelsea, Maurizio Sarri has spoken out about what made him move to Juventus after just one season in the Premier League.
The Italian had two years left on his Chelsea contract, which at first stalled progress over the transfer of the manager, but Juventus later agreed a £5 million compensation fee, as the Blues prepare to now appoint his successor.
Sarri made a name for himself in both Italy and later England but felt the time was right to move back home for family and business reasons, as reported by the Mirror.
He received a mixed reception during his time at Stamford Bridge because of his stubbornness on the pitch but he insists he has no regrets over his time in England.
The Premier League was a great experience, but in the latter half (of the season), I felt professional and personal needs to return to Italy.
All in all, he took Chelsea to two cup finals, one of which they won, in addition to a third-place finish in the Premier League.
Sarri will hope to build on the first trophy of his long career at serial winners Juventus, a club where trophies are a necessity in order to be deemed ‘successful’.
Winning continuously is always hard and Juventus have an obligation to always win.
The Italian will now be preparing to face his former side Napoli, while he will also come up against another ex-Chelsea boss in Antonio Conte, who has taken over at Inter.
