A lot of long-term plans at Chelsea might have taken a turn after the club decided to sack Enzo Maresca at the start of the year and replace him with Liam Rosenior. Results-wise, the new boss has made an excellent start to life at Stamford Bridge, a lot people are still not convinced though whether he is the right man for the job or not.
If Rosenior is to be a long-term success at Chelsea, the club will need to back him in the upcoming summer transfer window. They will need to make some quality additions to the squad.
One position that has been in need of reinforcements for a while is up front. The club did add Joao Pedro and Liam Delap in last year’s summer transfer window but the results have been mixed.
Pedro has been a standout performer since Rosenior’s appointment. If he can keep on performing like this, he might be good enough to lead the line for Chelsea. But Delap has continued to struggle and has managed to score just three goals in 30 appearances since his move to Stamford Bridge.
Nicolas Jackson looks set for summer return to Chelsea
This is where Nicolas Jackson could re-enter the picture at Chelsea. His loan stint at Bayern Munich has proven to be a relative failure. He has started only seven times and played a total of 641 minutes of football for the Bavarian giants.
According to The Times, Jackson is set for a Chelsea return after lack of Bayern Munich action. The German club’s obligation-to-buy clause for 24-year-old striker, which would cost them further a £56.2 million on top of the £14.3 million loan fee, will not be triggered.
Also, it is said that Chelsea have not ruled out keeping Jackson next season. With Maresca being replaced by Rosenior, the Senegalese striker is believed to be keeping his options open.
That is a bit of a U-turn for sure. After the manner in which Jackson left the club in the summer, it had looked like it was inevitable that he would leave on a permanent basis and never wear the Chelsea shirt ever again. Now, with a change of managers, it looks like both parties could be rethinking the situation.
There are many who believe that Jackson would provide a better option to Chelsea than what they have been getting from Delap since his £30 million arrival from Ipswich Town.
