De Bruyne reveals extent of his relationship with Mourinho

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has revealed that during his time at Chelsea he barely spoke to boss Jose Mourinho.

The Belgian international can win his first premier league title with a win this weekend against cross-town Rivals Manchester United, the team his former manager coaches.

Under the Portuguese boss, he made only 3 appearances at Stamford Bridge and spent a season on loan at Werder Bremen.

“I would say distant,” De Bruyne told The Premier League Show when asked about his relationship with Mourinho.

I’m not really somebody who speaks a lot with coaches if a coach wants to speak with you, then you just you do it. He is the boss, you can be good with each other but still there’s a distance between a coach and a player.

I only spoke with him twice — when I wanted to leave to [Borussia] Dortmund at the beginning of the summer and the second meeting I just said for me it’s better to go, I want to play football.

The 26-year-old was sold by the Blues to Wolfsburg in 2014 for a small fee of £18m, where he won Bundesliga player of the season before returning to the Premier League with Manchester City for a fee of £55m.

He turned down a move to Bayern Munich and Paris St. Germain due to feeling that the soon to be Premier League champions suited him more.

I felt the way City were chasing after me, the plan with all the people coming in, I thought for me, the probability of the type of football I can play, it would suit me the best.

De Bruyne has said that he has no regrets about his move to the sky blues and is hotly tipped to be named as Player of the Year.
