There are a number of players who could be on their way out of Chelsea this summer. There is uncertainty around the future of key players like Enzo Fernandez and Marc Cucurella at the moment. With the Julian Alvarez deal looking unlikely, it is very possible that Barcelona could come back in for Joao Pedro as well.
While it remains to be seen what the future holds for those players, the club have already confirmed four names who will be heading for the Stamford Bridge exit door this summer.
Chelsea have announced the impending departures of Brodi Hughes, Richard Olise, Sam Rak-Sakyi and Jimi Tauriainen. They will leave on their contracts expire on June 30th.
Some of those are famous surnames. Others will be familiar to Chelsea fans because they have been involved in the first-team picture in the past.
Who are the four leaving Chelsea this summer
Hughes joined the club as a U-8 and spent 13 years in the youth ranks. He has not been able to break through at Chelsea though. He spent the previous season on loan at Wimbledon. And it is very possible that his future might lie in one of the lower-level leagues with the aim of moving up in the future by proving himself in the senior game.
Olise is the brother of a certain Michael Olise, in case you were wondering. While his older sibling is a Ballon d’Or contender, the youngster will now look to carve his own path in football.
He is not the only one with a famous older sibling. Sam is the brother of Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, who had also started in the Chelsea youth ranks before moving to Crystal Palace.
Out of these four, Tauriainen had looked like the closest to finding a place for himself in the senior team at one point. But after a couple of first-team appearances in the 23/24 campaign, things just headed nowhere of note.
Are Chelsea’s owners making a mistake?
One issue that Cobham talents have faced in recent years is that the club’s transfer policy has revolved around signing wonderkids.
That has meant that the likes of Estevao, Geovany Quenda, Kendry Paez, Dastan Satpaev and many others have been recruited.
Now, it is only natural that they will get more opportunities. A lot of investment has been made on signing them, so the club would want to keep them every chance possible of making it at Stamford Bridge.
That has often meant that the pathway has closed for Cobham talents. That might not necessarily be the smartest route to go though.
Just look at the players who have been in Chelsea’s academy setup in recent years. Declan Rice, Jamal Musiala, Michael Olise, Lewis Hall, Tino Livramento, the list goes on. All of them are international-level talents. Some might even be Ballon d’Or contenders in the future.
