Despite spending almost a fortune in attacking reinforcements last summer, Chelsea have failed to reach anywhere near the Premier League’s highest scoring side, Manchester City. who have a goal tally of 76. On the other hand, the Blues have only scored a total 57 goals with only one game left to play this season.
Chelsea have netted only five goals in their last eight games in all competitions. As a result, Xabi Alonso will most likely insist on bringing in quality strikers during the upcoming transfer window. Reports suggest they might have one on their sights already.
According to reports, Chelsea are interested in Inter Milan youth academy graduate, Pio Esposito, ahead of the summer transfer window. But who is he and what would he bring to the table for the Blues?

The 20-year-old striker has played cover to both Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez in Inter’s lineup this season. Despite that, Esposito has scored nine goals and provided six assists for the Italian side in this campaign so far, with one final game still left for him to add to his tally.
Although the young striker’s numbers might not look that impressive on paper, for a 20-year-old to compete alongside the likes of Thuram and Martinez surely proves his worth in Cristian Chivu’s squad this season.
Esposito returned to Inter Milan last summer after spending two seasons out on loan at Spezia. Following a brilliant 2024-25 season, with the youngster scoring 19 goals in all competitions, he was integrated into the first-team at San Siro.
The striker has not only impressed at the club level but he has also featured seven times for the Italian national team. And he has contribute as well, scoring three goals.
Chelsea’s lack of goals
Given his sturdy physique, Chelsea might see Esposito as the perfect future investment going forward. Last summer’s recruit Liam Delap could now well be shown the exit door after just one season at Stamford Bridge. The English striker has only scored once in the Premier League for the Blues following his move from Ipswich Town.
The Blues are also wary of their top scorer Joao Pedro‘s situation. Following his snub from the Brazilian squad for the upcoming World Cup. Could that result in him leaving? Reliable sources have confirmed that Barcelona are interested in him.
Would Inter Milan sanction Esposito move?
Although Inter’s stance regarding Esposito is not clear as of yet. Earlier, when Newcastle United reportedly knocked on their door, the Magpies were told that the striker is ‘untouchable’.
Now, with the summer window only a month away, the Blues might need some internal push from the player’s side to see a move go through. But then, he will surely want assured minutes if he were to join Chelsea.
