After the first 27 matchdays of the 2025/26 Premier League season, Chelsea and Liverpool find themselves on the same number of points. It would be safe to say that both set of fans will be disappointed with that.
Chelsea had won the Club World Cup in the summer. The hope was that we would see the team take a forward step in this campaign. But it has been pretty much the same story. The Blues’ young squad has been inconsistent and find themselves fighting for the Champions League qualifying spots again, with little other prospect of silverware.
On the other hand, Liverpool’s Premier League defence has completely fallen flat. That was the last thing they would have expected after spending north of £400 million in the summer.
So, it would be safe to assume that both Chelsea and Liverpool will look to make additions next summer. And it looks like a £100 million-rated player from a Premier League rival is on their radar.
Both Chelsea and Liverpool want to sign Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa
According to GIVEMESPORT, Aston Villa could yet sanction the transfer exit of Morgan Rogers in the summer, despite the English international having signed a new contract with the club. Chelsea and Liverpool will both be alive to the situation. Manchester United also hold an interest in the player.
The report further states that due to the contract extension, it would take a fee around the £100 million mark or even towards a British transfer record, to convince Aston Villa to part ways with Rogers.
Could Chelsea sign Rogers in the summer?
Chelsea have been linked with a move for Rogers for quite some time. It remains to be seen if they finally find a breakthrough next summer.
Of course, it would take a significant transfer fee to make it happen. But Chelsea are no strangers to pulling off big moves when the situation calls for it. They did spend north of £100 million to sign the likes of Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo. Could Rogers join that list?
Rogers is one of the best players in the Premier League right now. He is capable of playing on the left flank or as a number 10. Chelsea could use that sort of versatility.
Rogers is extremely effective as well. This season, he has scored 10 goals and provided 7 assists across all competitions.
One also has to wonder if this has anything to do with the situation of Cole Palmer. Once Chelsea’s most consistent performer, he has struggled for form and fitness all season. And the links with a move to Manchester United just won’t go away.
