Chelsea star Denis Zakaria’s patience finally paid off on Wednesday night, when he started and scored on his Chelsea debut in the Champions League clash against Dinamo Zagreb.
After the game, he shared his elation and praised the support he received at Stamford Bridge.
This update was relayed by esteemed journalist Fabrizio Romano, who took to Twitter to issue the update.
The 25-year-old was elated with his opportunity and grasped it firmly with both hands.
On his personal page, Romano shared: “Zakaria: ‘Chelsea fans are amazing. I’m very excited, I’m very happy and it’s important for me to play a good game’.”
‘I left Juventus to play and I waited for my chance… the manager said play like you did in training. I did my best’.”
Patience paid off
In the position of Switzerland midfielder Denis Zakaria, many players would have caused issues due to impatience.
If he had, you could completely understand why.
As Romano relayed, the loanee “left Juventus to play”, so failing to even make the bench would have come as a bitter blow.
But, he hung tight, remained patient and clearly put in the work behind the scenes in training, with Potter not just granting him a chance to make his full debut for the SW6 side, but also telling him to “play like you did in training.”
A match-winning performance in 70 minutes of Champions League football prevailed from the opportunity, with Zakaria showing fans exactly what they have been missing out on.
We will have to see whether the £30million star can push on from here, with the club able to purchase him at said price.
