Chelsea may look to negotiate a swap deal in order to acquire the services of Ajax’s Mexican midfielder Edson Alvarez.
That is according to journalist Simon Phillips, who has informed GIVEMESPORT of his understanding surrounding Chelsea’s interest in bringing Alvarez to Stamford Bridge.
The journalist believes that Ajax possess an interest in resigning the Moroccan midfielder and has suggested that a swap deal could suit both parties.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Phillips said: “AC Milan and Ajax are both still interested, and Chelsea still have an interest in Edson Alvarez from Ajax, so something could be done there.”
A rare & logical scenario
Swap deals in today’s age are relatively unheard of, due to respective clubs employing a dedicated transfer philosophy.
Then there is also the conundrum of whether the player wants to make a move to said club. So, in many cases, it is rare that all parties benefit from a multiple-asset deal.
Though, this is one of those special cases that both clubs would surely relish if it was to come to fruition.
£33.3million Ziyech has drastically struggled for minutes this season and looks out of favour under boss Graham Potter, having made just four appearances in the Premier League.
On the other hand, £50million Alvarez has shone at Ajax and has demonstrated a more progressive side that has seen him emerge as a talismanic asset to Alfred Schreuder’s side.
The Dutch giants will not want to lose Alvarez, but resigning a player who garnered 29 attacking returns in the form of 16 goals and 13 assists across 29 Eredivisie games, just three and a half seasons ago, may prove too tempting.
