Chelsea’s £33million summer signing Kalidou Koulibaly has issued his ambitions to win the Premier League title this season.
That is according to a report from Milan-based outlet Corriere, which has been relayed by esteemed journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Despite the fact that the club currently sit in sixth place in the league, ten points from top-spot, the Senegalese defender still believes the club can fulfil their utmost domestic ambitions.
Taking to his Twitter page to relay the update, Romano said: “Koulibaly: ‘We can win the Premier League this season, I want to make history’, tells @Corriere.
“‘I arrive with a coach who wanted me at all costs, and then he leaves. Both Tuchel & Potter play with 3 defences, I was used to a 4 with Napoli. But you never stop learning’.”
K2’s lofty ambitions
The vast majority of Chelsea fans will concede that the club’s title hopes for this season are over, due to a stuttering start in the league that has left them in sixth place – even with the bounce that came with Graham Potter’s appointment.
It is interesting that the 31-year-old, who has adapted well to Premier League football, feels as though he is in a continuous chamber of learning in the three-at-the-back system.
It seems to have benefitted him so far, and he is more expressive in the three-at-the-back system, which is by design as far as Potter will be concerned.
Along with Thiago Silva, he is one of the most progressive players in possession. He is able to start attacks from deep – with his average of 4.7 accurate long balls per 90 – whilst ensuring retention of the ball through his average of 65 accurate passes per 90, the second-highest in the squad.
