Chelsea’s pursuit of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen is “one to watch”.
That is according to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs, who has informed GIVEMESPORT of his understanding regarding Osimhen’s potential move to the Premier League.
The reporter believes that the £85million star would fit into Graham Potter’s system pretty seamlessly at Chelsea, though he understands that the club are “not at the front of the queue” for his signature right now.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jacobs said: “Eventually, I think that we will see him make an ambitious move to the Premier League. But Chelsea are not at the front of the queue.
“The comparisons with Didier Drogba are kind of apt, and he would certainly fit into Chelsea’s system very well. But they’re not prioritising him at this stage, partly because of the fee that would be asked and also because there are other suitors in the mix at this stage.
“It’s one to watch for sure, from Chelsea’s point of view, but they’re certainly not the only club chasing him.”
The next Drogba
Osimhen’s emphatic exploits in the front line have seen him earn some extremely honourable plaudits, with his comparison to Chelsea legend Didier Drogba topping the charts.
Osimhen’s former teammate Nicolas Penneteau has waxed lyrical over the Nigerian’s ability, stating this, as per GOAL on Twitter: “From the first training sessions, we saw that [Osimhen] was a player of different class.
“I said it when he moved to Lille but for me, he might be the next Drogba in the French league.”
And in wake of those claims, the 23-year-old has pushed on emphatically.
Boasting seven goals in eight games, Osimhen is tearing the Serie A defences up for a resurgent Napoli side who have been scintillating this season.
The number-9-wearing star has just come off the back of scoring a hat-trick against Sassuolo in a feat that saw him rack up an impressive 2.24 xGOT (expected goals on target) metric and a man of the match award.
Osimhen is good value up top, clocking up a shots on target percentage of 32.4% from his average of 1.7 shots on target in the Serie A.
His exploits in front of goal have inspired a Napoli side who are bound for success if they can keep up their stellar form.
At this point, it will be tough for Chelsea to prise the asset away from the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, but if they can bide their time, they may be able to land themselves “the next Drogba”.
