Chelsea boss Graham Potter should have the final say in the behind-scenes conundrum as to whether the club should make a move for Cristiano Ronaldo.
That is according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who has informed GIVEMESPORT that “there are lots of dilemmas” over a move for the Portuguese icon.
That is despite the fact that co-owner Todd Boehly is thought to want to bring him in.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, O’Rourke said: “It will be an interesting one, whether Manchester United would want to see Ronaldo go to a potential top-four rival.
“There are lots of dilemmas and conundrums over a potential move for Ronaldo, and I think the final decision should be Graham Potter’s rather than Todd Boehly’s.”
Potter’s call
It’s been a tough season for Ronaldo, who has scored 103 goals in the Premier League during his two spells at Manchester United.
Branded as a tactically inept player, his stardom has fell as of recent, with regular minutes hard to come by in what is a stark turn from last season, which saw him finish as United’s top scorer with 24 goals in all competitions.
The 37-year-old’s movement in the attacking third is more conservative than what we’ve seen even a few seasons ago, but there is no better player in world football at putting the ball in the back of the net from central areas.
Branded a “football genius” by Portugal head coach Fernando Santos, Ronaldo still has a big impact when he plays.
Despite constant scrutiny, Ronaldo’s work off the ball ranks him as the fifth-best attack-minded asset in the United squad, with his average of 4.6 shots per 90 ranking him in first place – showing that he can make direct chances from little service – an offering that Chelsea are crying out for right now.
Ronaldo could rediscover his goalscoring touch with regular minutes at Chelsea whilst helping the side to overcome their goalscoring issue.
Ultimately, though, this move hangs on Potter’s discretion.
