Chelsea remain in control in their chase for RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano who issued the update around the £52million star, reiterating that the player has had a medical with the club and that a deal has been agreed in principle.
In his exclusive column with CaughtOffside, the transfer guru said: “It’s important to mention that Chelsea have everything under control, he’s agreed in principle to join, he’s had a medical with Chelsea, and he’s waiting to sign his contract.”
“Everyone who’s joining Chelsea all agree that Nkunku will be an excellent signing for the Blues.
“Just a reminder – Chelsea don’t plan to meet Nkunku’s €60m release clause, they plan to reach a different agreement.”
“Excellent signing”
Nkunku’s recent emergence has seen him reach the pinnacle of Europe’s list of brightest prospects, thanks to his efforts over the last couple of seasons.
He has gone from a steady attacking asset to a roaring prospect, with his sudden emergence across the 2021/22 campaign seeing him net a whopping 20 goals and 13 assists across 34 Bundesliga games.
The season prior saw him notch six goals and six assists from 28 Bundesliga appearances – further evidence of his meteoric rise.
The France international has taken his form from last term into this campaign, scoring eight goals in 11 Bundesliga appearances for a Leipzig side who have struggled and undergone a managerial change this season.
Yet that has not affected the 24-year-old’s performances in any way.
Nkunku would be a hit for Chelsea in the Premier League, with his dynamism up-top enough to give Graham Potter’s side a different dimension in attack.
As Romano states, this will be an “excellent signing” for the Blues.
