Chelsea are in the race to sign UEFA Champions League stars and respective scorers, Antonio Silva and Josko Gvardiol.
That is according to esteemed journalist Fabrizio Romano who issued the update on the pair, who would cost a combined total of £164m, via Twitter.
Gvardiol (£77m) scored in RB Leipzig’s 3-2 win against Real Madrid on Tuesday night, whilst Benfica defender Silva (£87m) achieved the same feat in the Portuguese side’s 4-3 win over Serie A giants Juventus.
The transfer guru picked up on this and took the opportunity to issue an update on the Chelsea-linked pair.
Taking to his personal Twitter page, Romano said: “Antonio Silva, born in 2003. Joško Gvardiol, born in 2002. Centre backs of the future scoring in Champions League.”
“Chelsea are still following Gvardiol after bid turned down in August — open race for Antonio Silva as many top clubs are already tracking him.”
Promising pair
With Silva aged just 18-years-old and Gvardiol two years his senior, it is clear that the pair have big futures ahead of them, having mustered their way into their respective club’s first-team plans at such an early age.
Both players shine in possession, with Silva averaging an incredible average of 7.0 long balls per 90 at a solid success rate of 67%, whilst Gvardiol tops the passing charts at Bundesliga side Leipzig, averaging a total of 76.9 accurate passes per 90 at a success rate of 89.1%
Chelsea would do well to secure either one of these promising young defenders, who would fit straight into Todd Boehly’s “top talents” model.
