Chalobah set for exit talks ahead of mooted January transfer

‘In the coming weeks’ Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah will become the subject of interest for Serie A side Roma.

Chalobah played 30 times for the Blues last season and despite being limited to just one appearance so far this term, Chelsea decided against loaning out the 23-year-old this summer.

Both Inter Milan and AC Milan showed interest while Tottenham are thought to have tabled an offer with the view for a temporary switch to north London.

However, the promising defender, dubbed a ‘monster’ by Football Talent scout Jacek Kulig, could yet depart Stamford Bridge this season.

According to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, Roma are now expected to initiate contact with Chalobah’s representatives ‘in the coming weeks’ to discuss a potential move in the winter transfer window.

Japhet Tanganga and Victor Lindelof are also thought to be on the Jose Mourinho-led side’s radar but Chelsea’s academy graduate does seem like a very viable option.

With the significant investment in Wesley Fofana and Kalidou Koulibaly this summer and the intention to revisit a deal for Josko Gvardiol next year, it appears that Chalobah’s game time at the Blues could become severely restricted.

However, a move to Italy could see his career flourish just like former clubmate Fikayo Tomori.

The ex-Chelsea defender went on to become a Serie A winner with AC Milan and has been named in the latest England squad, with a place at the World Cup looking likely.

Chalobah, a three-cap England U21 international himself, may look to continue his progression by following a similar path and it will be interesting to see how this situation develops.
