Journalist believes Christian Pulisic will be relishing Graham Potter’s appointment

Journalist Dean Jones believes that Christian Pulisic will be ‘embracing’ the appointment of Graham Potter at Chelsea.

The USA captain saw his career stagnate somewhat under previous Blues manager Thomas Tuchel, and the change in the dugout could help the forward to rekindle the form he showed when he first moved to west London.

Pulisic arrived at Chelsea in the summer of 2019 after a £58m move from Borussia Dortmund and scored 11 goals along with providing 10 assists in all competitions, averaging a goal involvement every 111 minutes.

He was touted to leave this summer having made just 21 starts last season, 13 of which came in the Premier League, but Jones is of the impression that the £150k-per-week ace can revive his Chelsea career under the new manager.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I can see Pulisic, in particular, embrace this. He wanted a change of team in the summer, and a change of manager at Chelsea is the next best thing.

“And actually, it might even be a better thing because there’s less upheaval for him. He hasn’t got to move anywhere; it means that he stays part of this team and gets to actually prove himself in this team.”

Opportunity knocks for Pulisic

Many may have forgotten the significant fee that the Blues invested in the American – who turns 24 this weekend – but with two years left on his contract, he still has time to repay the club’s faith.

Keeping fit has been a real struggle for the 50-cap USA international during his time at Cobham, but a change of luck on that front could most definitely help his chances of winning over his new boss.

Indeed, journalist Simon Phillips has tipped Pulisic to thrive in Potter’s system as a wing-back, and the change of management could bring with it a renewed opportunity for the player to become a more regular starter, having began just one match so far this term before Tuchel’s sacking.
