According to journalist Dean Jones former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel had huge trust in Armando Broja.
Tuchel was sacked by the Blues on Wednesday morning following a 1-0 defeat in Croatia to Dinamo Zagreb on a night where Broja came on for his fifth appearance of the season.
Last term the 20-year-old impressed on loan at Southampton netting nine goals in all competitions and was attracting attention throughout the summer with West Ham thought to have made a concrete offer for the Slough-born Albanian international.
The striker is said to have left Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the USA in order to complete a move but instead Broja ended up putting pen to paper on a new long-term contract at Stamford Bridge until 2028.
Now speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jones has said that the Cobham academy graduate was set to be handed regular appearances and that his improved deal only highlights the faith Tuchel had in the player.
He said: “It [his new contract] underlines the fact that Tuchel did have a genuine belief in him.
“I think that there are a few people within the game that had some doubt about whether that was actually the case, but Tuchel really did like the player. He was going to give him more chances now that he’s finally fit.”
While Tuchel may have been intending to deploy the youngster regularly, a change in the dugout could actually see Broja profit further.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s move to the club saw Broja’s squad role brought into jeopardy as the former Arsenal man had become a favourite of Tuchel’s at Borussia Dortmund and was thrown straight in against Zagreb, protective face mask and all.
However, a new coach could see Broja handed a fair chance at battling for that position at number nine and with it looking likely that progressive boss Graham Potter is set to take the reins you would suspect that the £43m-rated ace will get a decent crack.
