Chelsea could be boosted in their quest to land Rafael Leao as his agents work to remove his contract release clause.
That’s according to transfer insider Dean Jones who has been speaking to GIVEMESPORT following reports of the Blues’ interest in the AC Milan firecracker this summer.
It is said that the west London club were in discussions with the Serie A winners over a potential deal for the Portuguese star who only turned 23 in June.
However, Milan refused to budge and would only sanction a transfer should Leao’s £127m release clause be met.
Now according to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Rossoneri are set to tie down the ace attacker to a new deal until 2027 but Jones has stressed that this could be a good sign for Chelsea with the insider of the impression that Leao’s super-agent Jorge Mendes is aiming to remove the big-money release clause from any fresh terms.
He told GIVEMESPORT:
“They (Chelsea) could really do with him signing a new contract and getting rid of the clause that currently exists in his deal. That’s something that his agent is trying to work on right now.
“Leao does love life at AC Milan and he loves his role within that team, but there’s no doubt that he has a move on the horizon in the pretty near future.”
Leao was the star of the show as his side defeated rivals Inter Milan 3-2 last week, scoring twice and setting up the other further enhancing his reputation after 26 goal contributions in 42 appearances last season.
The burgeoning talent’s former coach Tiago Fernandes tipped Leao to have a ‘glorious’ career and he certainly seems destined for big things but whether or not that happens at Chelsea remains to be seen.
