Edinson Cavani’s agent and brother, Walter Fernando, has revealed why his brother stayed at Paris Saint-Germain in January, despite interest from Chelsea, Manchester United and Atletico Madrid.
The 32-year-old striker seemed destined to join Madrid, but the move fell through and club president Enrique Cerezo put it down to Fernando’s demands.
In an interview with La Cadena SER, Fernando explained how playing for Atletico is Cavani’s dream, rather than moving to England:
Do you think that after Cavani has not played in the last month with PSG, it’s for me to drop a commission and Edi not fulfil his dream of playing at Atletico? If it were for money, Edi would have gone to England to Manchester [United] or Chelsea.

Chelsea’s failure to sign attacking reinforcements has left them thin up top, with Tammy Abraham, Michy Batshuayi and Olivier Giroud the only options.
Abraham started the 2019/20 season well but has scored just two Premier League goals in his last 10 outings.
Meanwhile, Batshuayi has scored just once in 14 league appearances this term and Giroud has failed to find the net altogether.
In my opinion, if there’s one thing that’s going to prevent the Blues from finishing in the top four, it’s their lack of firepower in attack.
I think the club’s best hope is if Abraham can rediscover the form he showed early in the campaign because his the club;s other striker hav not been providing many goals.
It’s possibly an area Chelsea will look at early on in the summer, but I can’t help but feel recruitments should have been made last month.
