A number of Chelsea fans have been left baffled by Anthony Taylor’s strange decision to initially award Tottenham a free-kick for Paulo Gazzaniga’s challenge on Marcos Alonso.
The left-back was completely wiped out by the onrushing Gazzaniga, who attempted to clear the ball with a flying-kick in his own area but missed the ball and caught Alonso.
Taylor then baffled everyone by awarding Tottenham a free-kick initially, before VAR intervened and correctly gave Chelsea a penalty on the stroke of half-time, but Taylor’s decision has caused quite a stir on social media.

How Taylor even considered given a free-kick is beyond me, as Gazzaniga clearly took Alonso out after completely missing the ball with his attempted clearance.
Thankfully VAR intervened to give the correct decision however, and Willian slotted the resulting penalty away for his second of the game to put Chelsea 2-0 up.
