Luiz completes Arsenal move – Why it was the right time for him to leave

David Luiz has completed his rather controversial move to rivals Arsenal, but it was the right time for the 32-year-old to move on.

After handing in a transfer request on Wednesday in order to pursue a move to the Emirates, to the shock of many, the Gunners acted quickly to complete the signing of the Brazil international for a reported £8million fee.

While it may sting Chelsea supporters to see him in an Arsenal shirt next season, it was the right time for him to leave, and the manner of his departure further emphasises that.

Under Frank Lampard, the Blues have the chance to change the dynamic of the club, and shift the focus on finally developing their best young players and giving them a pathway to progress into the first team.

At 32-years-old, Luiz was not going to be a regular starter this season, and while having him as a senior figure could have been beneficial to the younger players, there is no point in keeping him at the club if he does not want to stay – even if that means allowing him to join Arsenal.
