Atletico Madrid confirm intention to keep Morata amid recall threat

Atletico Madrid have reportedly informed Alvaro Morata of their intention to keep the striker at the club this summer amid concerns the Spaniard was set to be recalled by Chelsea.

The Blues were said to have threatened to recall Morata from his 18-month loan spell with the La Liga giants if they did not sign the striker permanently this summer.

However, according to Goal, Atleti boss Diego Simeone has informed Morata of his intentions to keep hold of the 26-year-old this summer with the La Liga side having the option to sign the striker permanently for a fee of £48.5million.

Morata joined Atletico on loan in January and scored six times in 15 appearances in La Liga, as Simeone’s side finished second to runaway champions Barcelona.

The Spaniard has previously stated his desire to remain in Spain with Atleti, after struggling to settle in London following his move to Chelsea in 2017.
