Lampard arrival could see Kane make surprise Chelsea stay

You may have forgotten who Todd Kane is, but the 25-year-old looks set to leave this summer after joining the club aged eight.

Kane’s contract is up at the end of the month and, despite a decent loan spell at Hull City this season, it doesn’t seem it’ll be extended after he previously rejected a new deal.

That could change if Frank Lampard becomes Chelsea manager though, with Derby County one of several Championship teams to offer the right-back a contract this summer, according to the Times.

If that’s the case, Lampard must be an admirer and may be willing to finally offer Kane a chance in the first team with Chelsea’s transfer ban in full force.

The Times claim the Derby boss urged the club to sign Kane last summer, but he headed to Hull where he regularly impressed under Nigel Adkins.

Fikayo Tomori and Mason Mount are both set to be given chances at the Blues next term following successful loans under Lampard at Pride Park, but whether Kane will join them remains to be seen.
