It’s that time of year again; the 2019 Golden Boy award ceremony is just around the corner and Chelsea pose a large presence with four representatives in the 100-man shortlist.
The Blues are one of nine Premier League clubs to have players named in the shortlist, which includes stars from Wolves, Watford to Manchester United and Liverpool.
Wales international Ethan Ampadu is the club’s headline name. The 18-year-old has made 12 first team appearances over the past two seasons after becoming Exeter’s youngest-ever player on loan aged 15.
The versatile centre-half, who can also play in defensive midfield, has made eight appearances for the Wales national team too. Another player who has gained international recognition is Mason Mount.
Aged 20, Mount has has trained with Gareth Southgate’s England on a number of occasions but is yet to make his debut. He appears on the Golden Boy shortlist after an impressive season at Derby County, in which he helped Frank Lampard’s side reach the Play-Off final.
Chelsea’s other two representatives are right-back Dujon Sterling, who has impressed on loan at Coventry City this season, and exciting academy star Marc Guehi.
