Danny Rose says Gullit should ‘eat his words’ following Spurs triumph

Tottenham defender Danny Rose has hit back at Chelsea legend Ruud Gullit after the former Dutch midfielder criticised the Spurs team in their semi-final first leg defeat to Ajax.

A Lucas Moura hat-trick on Wednesday night saw Tottenham defeat Ajax on away goals, booking their place in the Champions League final in Madrid.

However, England international Rose thought the way Gullit criticised his team was ‘rude and out of order’.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game last night, Rose said:

Seeing people’s comments like Ruud Gullit after the first game and how rude he was.

The former Dutch international had a fantastic career on the pitch, representing the likes of AC Milan and Chelsea over his 19-year career.

The Milan legend made 171 appearances for the Italian side, scoring 56 goals in the process.

He also had a great spell at Chelsea where he made 50 appearances and scored five goals.

However, Rose put his respect for the former player to one side and hoped that his side’s reaction silenced the Dutchman.

He continued:

It’s nice that we fought back tonight and hopefully, we shut him up.

When the reporters asked the Tottenham left-back what Gullit had said, the defender replied:

He was very critical of individual players and saying how bad we were technically and he’s bang out of order for that, so that was fuel to the fire.

You know, I hope he eats his words after tonight.

Gullit will be cheering on his former club Chelsea tonight as they welcome Eintracht Frankfurt to Stamford Bridge for the second leg of their Europa League semi-final clash with the German side.
