Antonio Rudiger is to have surgery on the knee injury he sustained during Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United, and the defender could be set to miss the rest of the season, according to Daily Telegraph reporter Matt Law.

The Germany international was forced off with the same problem against Liverpool two weeks prior to the trip to Old Trafford, and the 26-year-old will almost certainly miss both legs of Chelsea’s Europa League semi final against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Maurizio Sarri’s side travel to Germany for the first leg on Thursday before hosting Eintracht the following week at Stamford Bridge, and Rudiger’s absence will be a huge blow for Chelsea in their push for a top four finish and a Europa League triumph.

The Blues are currently in fourth place in the Premier League with two games remaining against Watford and Leicester City respectively, with Andreas Christensen the most likely candidate to partner David Luiz in both given Rudiger’s absence.
