Four Findings: Everton 2-0 Chelsea

Chelsea’s progression in the Europa League in midweek has been overshadowed by their disappointing 2-0 defeat at the hands of Everton at Goodison Park.

The Blues started the game well and could have been two up inside the first 10 minutes with Eden Hazard crashing a shot against the post, whilst Gonzalo Higuain also went close.

Inside the first half, Chelsea had a lot of the ball and seemed to be suffering with possession, struggling to break down an Everton side that looked there for the taking.

Fast forward to the second half, and whatever Toffees boss Marco Silva said to his side during the interval seemed to work. The hosts came out of the blocks and went close inside the first 30 seconds of the half before Richarlison eventually gave them the lead, heading in a rebound following a Kepa Arrizabalaga save.

Marcos Alonso then gave the hosts the chance to double the lead in the 72nd minute after giving away a penalty. Gylfi Sigurdsson stepped up and saw his penalty saved by Chelsea’s number one, but the Icelandic international slotted in the rebound.

The defeat leaves Chelsea in sixth place, three points behind their London rivals Arsenal, who are sitting in the important fourth spot in the Premier League.

Take a look below for our four findings from this game, as Chelsea failed to close the gap on the Champions League places.
