Antonio Rudiger’s agent has called for Cesar Azpilicueta to be stripped of the Chelsea captaincy.
Tweeting after the Carabao Cup defeat to Manchester City, as reported by the Mirror, Saif Rubie called for the German to be given the armband.
I’m a fan of Azpi but as captain he should never have allowed what happened with the [goalkeeper] refusing to come off to happen. For me he needs to have the captaincy taken off him, [goalkeeper] dropped for the foreseeable future and Rudiger to be made Chelsea captain as he’s a real leader.
Azpilicueta’s position as captain has been questioned in the wake of the game after his reaction, or lack of, to the incident that saw Kepa refuse to leave the pitch when Maurizio Sarri tried to substitute him.
While the true manner of the incident remains unclear, with Chelsea resolving the matter internally, Azpilicueta played no part in trying to cool the situation, while David Luiz was seen taking on much more of a leadership role.
Rubie’s tweets have since been deleted, while Arrizabalaga has been fined a week’s wages for the incident following talks with both the club and Sarri.
