The Belgian international who’s just turned 28 earlier this month, has been consistently linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge, amid rumours that Real Madrid are looking to sign him.
His current contract keeps him at Chelsea for another 18 months. However, Maurizio Sarri seems unfazed that his top performer could be on his way out of West London.
Sarri has mentioned in a recent interview that Hazard is free to depart from the club although he does stress that he would prefer it if he would stay and continue his form, which at the beginning of the season, looked to be his best whilst in a Chelsea shirt.
Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s meeting with Bournemouth, as reported by the Mirror, Sarri gave his stance on the Belgian’s future.
Eden is 28. If he wants to go, I think he has to go. Of course, I hope the opposite, I hope he wants to stay here. He has the potential to be the best player in Europe at the moment.
If Hazard does remain at Chelsea until the expiry of his contract in 2020, there is a risk that they would be losing him for nothing which is almost insane to think about when talking about one of the world’s best.
The heads at Chelsea however, are very keen on getting the Belgian star to renew his contract even though Hazard has expressed his dream of wanting to secure a move to the Bernabeu in the past.
Contract negotiations are said to have been going on for the past year, however, there is still no certainty of Hazard wanting to remain in London.
Sarri added that “he has the potential to be the best player in Europe at the moment”, seemingly recognising that a move to Spain would allow Hazard to prove that he has the ability to play among the world’s best.
Due to the recent acquisition of Gonzalo Higuain from Juventus on loan this window, we can expect to see Hazard back on his preferred left-hand side, something Sarri hopes will bring the best out of him.
