Despite suggestions David Luiz might be ready to move on from Chelsea, it is reported by the Evening Standard that the two sides have come to the table to negotiate a new contract.
With the Brazilian’s deal up at the end of the current season, speculation had been rife that he might be set to follow Cesc Fabregas out the door at Stamford Bridge.
Instead, the West Londoners aren’t quite ready to say goodbye to the 31-year-old just yet.
In line with Chelsea’s policy on players north of 30 years of age, it is claimed that Luiz will be offered a 12-month extension.
The Standard quote his agent, Kia Joorabchian, saying:
We are in a very amicable situation with Chelsea. We are trying to work out a deal for David Luiz because he wants to stay, the manager wants him to stay and so does the club. I’m sure something will be worked out.
