Bayern Munich have moved to confirm their interest in Chelsea’s young England international, Callum Hudson-Odoi, with Bayern’s director of sport saying “we really want him”.
The young winger featured for the whole game in Chelsea’s Carabao Cup Semi Final First Leg loss to Tottenham last night, in a move that many read as Sarri trying to convince the England international to stay. He played well for the whole game, even hitting the post with a deflected cross and showed exactly what he could do, should he be given more game time. The move was even more apparent when Willian was substituted for Pedro, who are his two rivals for the position.
According to reports, he has even discussed the move with his German teammate Antonio Rudiger, although the defender says that he tried to convince him to stay in England.
If he were to leave, he would be following in the footsteps of many a young Englishman in recent times, with Jadon Sancho and Reiss Nelson being the two standout examples. This is starting to turn into the transfer saga of January so far, and is a signal of the changing times in football, will the talented youngster move to foreign shores, or try and stay to make his name in English football?
The trend of youngsters going abroad is a fairly recent one, but players seem to be starting to realise that maybe it could benefit their careers to go abroad, and this is definitely the most high profile one so far, not yet have any of the moves made headlines up until now.
Currently, Bayern have a €35m offer tabled at Chelsea, but reports state that they want more money, and it’s clear to see why after such a mature performance last night. A big money offer, though, could be too hard for Chelsea to turn down.
