Lazio want to sign Chelsea full-back Davide Zappacosta and have made him their top January target, according to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport, as translated by Sport Witness.
The 26-year-old is keen to get regular first-team action and with Maurizio Sarri clearly not keen to play him, a move looks like the most logical step for all parties.
However, Lazio are only interested in signing the Italian international on loan with the option to buy him for around €12m in the summer. Whilst Chelsea are happy to loan the defender out, they will only do so if Lazio are obliged to pay a transfer fee for him in the summer, rather than them only having the option to purchase him.
Zappacosta’s appearances this season have predominantly come in the Europa League group stages. He’s played a combined 18 minutes of action in the Premier League, coming on as a late substitute against Cardiff and Fulham, respectively.
