Chelsea continued to struggle for goals as they dropped points against Southampton in another dismal home display against a well structured defensive unit.
One thing is always assured when watching a Chelsea game under Maurizio Sarri, possession, and his team saw 70% of the ball with little to show for it. Their best chance of the game fell to the only man you’d trust to grab a goal right now in a Chelsea shirt, but Eden Hazard powered his shot straight at former Manchester City stopper Angus Gunn.
Alvaro Morata thought he had finally broken the deadlock in the 72nd minute, but he was marginally ruled offside, and Chelsea failed to find the net for the fourth time already this season.
Chelsea squandered the chance to strengthen their position in the top four, with Southampton rarely threatening and a lack of cutting edge proving once again to be the flaw of Sarri’s free-flowing possession style of play.
