Fabregas must take pay-cut to stay at Chelsea

Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas would have to take a pay check to stay at Chelsea, according to the Evening Standard.

Fabregas is out of contract at the end of the season with Chelsea, and his future at Stamford Bridge is currently uncertain.

No talks over a new contract have taken place, with no progress set to be made over a new deal until after the new year.

However, to stay at Chelsea, Fabregas would have to take a huge pay cut to justify a new deal.

Fabregas is on over £160,000 a week at the Blues, and is one of the highest earners at the club, despite not starting a Premier League game for the Blues this season.

Speaking after the win over Derby in the Carabao Cup, in which Fabregas scored the winner, the Spaniard said:

I still believe in myself a lot and think I can add so much to this team.

Let’s see what happens but I am happy here.

In life, not just football, timing is the most important thing. You don’t have to rush decisions, you don’t have to talk before things happen. At the moment I am playing once a week.

But we will see when the time comes that the Europa League ends for two months and there is a break in the EFL Cup [before the semi-finals should Chelsea get there]. Then there will only be games in the Premier League [for a few weeks].

The Blues will face Bournemouth in the Quarter Finals of the Carabao cup, who dispatched Norwich 2-1 in the round of 16.

matchday.
