Chelsea are monitoring Rochdale’s Luke Matheson after the 15-year-old made his first-team debut earlier this week, becoming the youngest player in the club’s history in the process.
Keith Hill brought the youngster on in the 13th minute of Rochdale’s Checkatrade Trophy clash with Bury, which his side won 2-1.
Matheson, who only started Year 11 at school on the morning of the game, went on to put in a Man of the Match performance.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, the Blues are one of numerous Premier League clubs keeping a close eye on the development of the young full-back.
Everton, Liverpool and Manchester United are all keeping a close eye on him but the Blues will hope that their recent examples of developing young players, either to become Chelsea players or successes elsewhere, will mean that Matheson joins them if he’s given the choice of numerous clubs at some point in the near future.
