Sarri and Courtois set to stage talks over goalkeeper’s future

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has revealed that he will meet Thibaut Courtois for talks over the player’s future on Monday.

Sky Sports report that Sarri is not happy with comments made by the Belgian’s agent, Christophe Henrotay, and will seek clarification from Courtois on his thoughts.

Henrotay believes the Blues should show some “compassion” and allow Courtois to join Real Madrid, with his family still based in the city from his time playing for arch rivals Atletico.

It is believed that Los Blancos have lodged a bid for the stopper, who has a year of his Stamford Bridge contract remaining.

The Blues would rather sell Courtois before the transfer window closes on Thursday than lose the player on a free next summer, but are keen to sign a replacement before allowing him to leave.

Courtois missed the Blues’ 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Community Shield, as he is still on holiday following his Belgium exploits in the World Cup.

However, he is scheduled to return to the club’s Cobham training base on Monday and will meet Sarri for the first time as Chelsea boss.

After the match at Wembley, Sarri said:

I am not interested in the agent. I want to hear Courtois [and see] if Courtois, tomorrow, will say to me the same.

I have to speak with my player, of course. I want only players who play with a very high level of motivation.
