Liverpool have pulled Danny Ward out of their squad for a friendly game at Blackburn Rovers this evening as he is set to join Leicester City, thus allowing Chelsea target Kasper Schmeichel to leave.

Chelsea are ready to let Thibaut Courtois join Real Madrid but will only sanction a deal if they can find a suitable replacement and Schmeichel is reportedly one of the names on their shortlist.
However, the Blues will face competition for the Danish star’s signature from AS Roma, who are themselves looking for a replacement after agreeing to sell Alisson to Liverpool.

With Courtois having just a year left on his Chelsea contract, the club will likely cash in on him, rather than allowing him to leave for free next summer and with the Belgian’s heart set on a move to Madrid, where his family still live, it looks like a transfer to the reigning European champions will be completed shortly.
However, Chelsea need to find themselves a replacement and if Schmeichel is the man they want, they may need to act quickly or face being beaten by Roma in the race to sign him.
