Chelsea want to sign Barcelona full-back Jordi Alba this summer, according to a report from Catalan newspaper Sport, as translated by Sport Witness.
The full-back’s contract with Barcelona expires in 2020 and as of yet, he’s not been offered an extension. Chelsea, along with Premier League rivals Manchester United, are monitoring his situation closely and apparently want to ‘secure his services’.
Despite having both Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri in the squad, Chelsea see Alba as an upgrade and as such, they’d be willing to make a move for him if he becomes available.
Manchester United’s left-back issues are well documented and whilst Ashley Young has played very well there at times, Alba’s quality would see him go straight into the first team.
Whether the interest is genuine or if it’s just agent talk trying to secure a new deal remains to be seen, but there’s no doubt that Alba would be an amazing signing if Chelsea could secure a deal for him.
