Barcelona star Iniesta could miss crucial clash with Chelsea

Chelsea could receive a boost ahead of their Champions League clash with Barcelona, with Andres Iniesta having picked up an injury in his side’s win over Atletico Madrid.

The experienced Spaniard was forced off in the first-half in Barca’s crucial game at Camp Nou, prompting fears that he may be unavailable for Ernesto Valverde’s men ahead of their game against Chelsea.

The Blues travel to Spain for the second leg of their last 16 tie in the Champions League on 14 March and will be desperate to secure a shock win after a poor run of form.

Antonio Conte will take his side to Camp Nou with the scores level on aggregate following the 1-1 draw between Chelsea and Barcelona at Stamford Bridge.

Iniesta is well into his 30’s but remains a key player for Barcelona, as embodied by his crucial role in helping Valverde’s side back to the top of La Liga this season.

As quoted by Goal, the Barca boss discussed Iniesta’s injury in the 1-0 win over Atletico.

Iniesta is a unique player, a little like Messi, so it’s difficult to find a player who can replace him. He’s unique in the world with the characteristics he has. We will have to see the extent of the injury.

He carried on playing so we thought it wasn’t too bad, but we’re not sure. He was playing incredibly.
