Chelsea linked with unlikely move for Rondon

Chelsea are quite evidently on the lookout for a physically gifted striker this month.

The Blues have been linked with a plethora of strong forwards, including Andy Carroll, Edin Dzeko and Fernando Llorente. Even the likes of Ashley Barnes and Peter Crouch have been touted with moves to Stamford Bridge.

According to reports in Italy (via the Daily Mail), though, the latest name on Chelsea’s radar is Salomon Rondon, who is currently in a good spell of form with West Brom.

The powerful centre forward has been goal shy this season but has picked up under new Baggies boss Alan Pardew of late. It seems the Blues are growing increasingly impatient with their pursuit of Roma forward Dzeko, and are now exploring other avenues.

However, a move for Rondon does seem unlikely. Pardew, as quoted by the Daily Mail, recently rebuffed claims that he’d offload the 28-year-old Venezuelan international forward at this late stage of the window.

Salomon has been absolutely brilliant since I’ve been here. He has been playing terrific football without getting reward in terms of goals. That’s the next part of the ingredient for him, in my tenure here.

Pardew also went on to hail how he has coped with the disastrous events from West Brom’s draw with Everton, as Rondon accidentally broke James McCarthy’s leg.

He showed his leadership quality in response to James McCarthy’s injury. We wish him the best. We go on. Salomon is not part of any deal.
